Princely Vest

The girly stuff out there is so great if you happen to be blessed with a girl. We are blessed with an active, creative, bouncing boy! My son was invited to a princess party that wasn't about the ruffles and lace, but I still thought that a prince should be invited to the party!

The vest "Fit for a Prince" was born, but needed something more. It just didn't look accomplished enough. (Silly boy pose!)

My son requested "a star on the center back by the neck." His words! I had to deliver since the prince was the one requesting!

I also added 3 star buttons to the left and to the right of the front. It adds boyish sparkle and just enough panache.
Did it get the princes approval? "Ahh. Perfect!" was his response.
Trying out here:

One Month To Win It

Eat or Drink

For HIS Glory, I will take care of my body, so that I can stay on this earth another day to spread HIS love, to raise my son KNOWING HIM.

I finished this today and put it up above our microwave so that my husband and I can be reminded that it's not for us but to HIS name be the glory!

Memory Verses.

Deuteronomy 11:20
Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates...

Our theme this year is Living in Community! So the verses reflect that theme.

Our memory verses for the next six weeks. (Actually, I didn't put up week 2.) These are hung outside the bathroom door, where they can be glanced at or stared at multiple times a day!

Cowboy Vest

This was so easy and fast to make! I wish I had more felt and more colors to do another vest! I actually had the idea to make a reversible vest, cowboy on one side, fireman on the other. Then, Dana, from Made, posted this awesome tutorial for a felt vest, so I had to get it done before "Celebrate the Boy" month was over.

This is the basic shape. I didn't have enough white felt to use for the back, so I just made the back black. This is a size 5/6, though, and Dana's pattern was for a bit smaller. I crafted my own pattern from a pull over vest my son has.

Then I added cow spots.

I added bias tape (made from the same felt) and fringe to the bottom.
This is a surprise for my son when he comes home from school today. I will post pics of him wearing the vest when he tries it on!

Vest fit for a Prince

My intention was that this vest look like a 'prince' outfit, but I think it just looks like a vest with ribbon on it! This was my first time trying to embellish and I learned a lot about taste and color.

With all of those princess dresses out there, we are lacking in the prince department. I thought this would be a good idea, but it needs something more. And I'm not sure if my son would much rather be a fireman or a cowboy than a boring prince!

I used this tutorial, following her pattern-drafting idea to make my own template. Here is the finished vest.

Five-Minute-Friday

From Gypsy Mama: On Fridays around these parts we have a little tradition. We throw caution (editing, revising, and worrying) to the winds and just write.

For five minutes flat.

Topic: Five Years Ago
GO
Five years ago I didn't think I would ever miss that newborn stage of having a baby. See, I'm not a baby person. Holding an infant that can't keep it's head up has never been my forte. Wanting a baby that will need you for EVERYTHING was not on my to-do list. I wanted a child, but not the baby part.

Five years ago, my son was 6 months old and I was in awe as I watched him play and sleep and learn language and learn to eat. But somehow I missed those early days when he needed me more. I mean, I looked forward to when he didn't need me to help him eat or potty etc. But there is something sweet and magical about watching a baby breath; watching him recognize you; watching him smile or laugh for the first time. MAGICAL!

I am so proud of the boy my son is right now, but sometimes, occasionally, very rarely, i miss those first months of being parents for the first time. The craziness, the no sleep, not sure that I want to relive that. But then again, those baby toes that don't stink yet! That toothless grin and baby gurgle noise.

TIME

That is fun! You should try it too! Makes me want to keep going!

Last Summer Lunch Tote

I made a lunch bag out of a pillow case using this tutorial here. I love how it turned out!
The drawstring part was a bit tricky and I have since found a tutorial that is a little bit more clear.
I quilted the inside, but retrospectively think that is silly since no one really sees the inside. It looks great though!

Inspiration

I have this old comforter from my parents garage that I have been holding on to, waiting for the perfect project to come along. I even googled something about comforters and recycling, but all the sights recommended giving the comforter away, to continue being used as a comforter.

I found this site and was inspired by her fabric choice, maybe because it is so similar to my old comforter. I know how to make a messenger bag, so I don't need the tute, but it is always fun to see how others accomplish the same idea as you.
So, after Celebrate the Boy month is over, I will be making me some messenger bags, for family or for friends or for to sell! Not sure yet!
